Open Educational Resources
One of the projects I ask students to complete in ENG 101/103 is an argument about a non-profit organization of their choice. Each semester, I use the YC Food Bank as an example, in part to ensure that students are aware of the existence of this important resource. Many of our students are choosing to go hungry in order to obtain an education and achieve their goals. In the 2019-2020 school year, I began to focus on using/creating free materials for students to address this problem. Saving them $100 on a textbook allows students to spend that money on food, gas, and other necessities.
Over the summer in 2020, I made a goal to create OER texts for ENG 101, ENG 102, ENG 237, and ENG 210, as well as to create an OER Writing Handbook for YC students. Here are links to each of these texts:
