Analyzing Advertisements

Introduction

In this section of the text, you will be introduced to writing an analysis of a print advertisement. First, you will expand your understanding of rhetoric by learning about the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos. Then, you will learn about visual arguments and how to analyze visual elements, applying what you have learned to the analysis of an advertisement. Examples will be provided for each step of the writing process, so you will have a guide as you write your own paper. In addition, you’ll find some mini-grammar review lessons that will help you to clean up your writing in preparation for “publishing” your work by submitting your finished paper to your instructor.
